Every week in Texas hundreds of people are arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, however, these are normally misdemeanor criminal offenses which are resolved with a fine, a few days in jail, and Texas Driver License suspension.

In other instances people are arrested for killing people on the roadways. These aren’t normal killings, but are killings or “crimes” of irresponsibility and are prosecuting in a manner consistent with the crime.

When a person causes the death of another due to drunk driving, its a serious felony offense known as “intoxication manslaughter”. If a person is convicted of Intoxication Manslaughter it can net a jail sentence of up to 20 years.
