Although most DWI cases in Texas tend to be misdemeanor criminal offenses, a growing number of people charged with Driving While Intoxicated are charged as felons, putting them among the most heinous of the criminal element.

If a person charged with a felony level drunk driving offense is found guilty of the charge in the court of law, serious criminal penalties can be expected. The criminal penalties are for more than a few months in most cases. Some people charged with their 8th or 9th DWI have been sentenced to life in prison.
